Description
John 7:37-39
Jesus stood in the temple proclaiming that anyone who believes in Him will have rivers of living water flowing from their hearts. This was an invitation for all people to come to Him to receive the gift of eternal life. This passage reminds us of the offer of grace that Jesus has extended to us. We can come to Jesus and receive the living water of the Holy Spirit, which will fill us with joy and peace and overflow out of us so that we can be the light of the world.

We ask that You continue to pour out Your Spirit of Truth and Grace so that we may be like a mighty rushing river of living water to all who are thirsty. Lord, we confess that we have not been wise stewards of the blessings and gifts You’ve given us. We have not always craved Your words or sought Your face. We have failed to recognize the abundance of the Holy Spirit within us and have kept Your gifts to ourselves.

We Hear God’s Word

First Reading Numbers 11:24-30
Moses was overwhelmed by the burden of leading the Israelites, so God sent seventy elders to help him. The Spirit of the Lord came upon them, and they are able to prophesy. The two men who did not receive the Spirit’s presence, however, were left feeling jealous and disappointed.
24 So Moses went out and told the people what the Lord had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the tent. 25 Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took some of the power of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied—but did not do so again. 26 However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp. 27 A young man ran and told Moses, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp.” 28 Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses’ aide since youth, spoke up and said, “Moses, my lord, stop them!” 29 But Moses replied, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put his Spirit on them!” 30 Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.
