Description

Matthew 15:21-28

A Canaanite mother desperately called upon Jesus to heal her demon possessed daughter.  This woman was not a Jew but persisted in her request even after being tested by Jesus.  Because of her attitude and humble faith, Jesus healed her daughter once again breaking social boundaries and offering this woman not just a crumb, but a seat at the table.

Pastor / Worship Leader

Praise the Lord although we fall.

Praise the Lord indeed we shall!  He is worthy!  He is worthy!  Hallelujah- God is worthy!

Opening Prayer / Theme Introduction

Pastor / Worship Leader

Dearest Lord, Your love abounds so deeply for us, and this we will never fully comprehend.  We were foreigners and enemies against You, yet You showed us impartial love.  You laid down Your precious life in our place and granted us mercy and grace.  We can’t repay You; we are nothing without You.  Fill us with Your grace and truth so that we may boldly shine Your light to others who are lost and perishing.

Worshipers

Praise the Lord who is worthy of all!  Hallelujah- God is worthy! Amen.

Time of Confession and Forgiveness

[Alternate location:  following Message]

Pastor / Worship Leader

Jesus, forgiver of our sins, we humbly approach You as Your servants and followers.  You are gracious and kind.  You are mighty and strong.  We in our human state are sinful and easily deceived.  We need You more than ever as we live in this temporary place full of violence, greed, and shame.

Worshipers

We seek Your forgiveness, Lord Jesus.

Pastor / Worship Leader

We confess of our blatant sins and hidden sins to You now.  You accept us instead of reject us.  You embrace us instead of separating us from You.  You offer Your love to us, even though we don’t deserve it, and You charge us to sin no more.

Worshipers

May we walk in Your forgiveness and forgive those who sin against us.  In the name of Jesus, we pray, amen.

…  We Hear God’s Word  …

[Read aloud both the introduction and Scripture]

First Reading                                  Isaiah 56:1, 6-8

Isaiah guides God’s people into right living and holding fast to God’s covenant.  God will gather His true people.

This is what the Lord says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to minister to him, to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants, all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant—these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” The Sovereign Lord declares—he who gathers the exiles of Israel: “I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered.”
